B&R receives a large order from Salinen Austria AG of 1.5 million EUR for new process control system
09/09/2005
Bad Ischl, Eggelsberg. Salinen Austria AG has placed a large order with the automation specialists Bernecker + Rainer Industrie-Elektronik Ges.m.b.H. (B&R) in Eggelsberg. The order includes updating and standardizing the process control technology and automating the production systems in the Ebensee salt works and also in three salt mining operations. The volume of the order is €1.5 million, and B&R, an Austrian high-tech company, was chosen from an international field of potential providers.
Salinen Austria AG will be counting on the functionality, quality and availability of B&R's APROL process control system as well as on the process control know-how of the engineering partner Lenzing Technik GmbH. The order includes updating the automation and process control technology for primary production at the Ebensee salt works as well as in the wining operations in Hallstatt, Bad Ischl and Altaussee. Future interface problems between individual modules can be ruled out using this uniform, company-wide "Salt works process control system". It will also result in uniform documentation and archiving of data, which is very important e.g. when tracing disturbances. With the flexible and expandable system, the salt manufacturer hopes to save money on service, maintenance, and replacement parts.

"We received the order after competing with well-known European process control system manufacturers within the framework of an extensive bidding procedure", said Mr. Ludwig Hafner, engineer and sales representative at B&R Austria. An important reason for the decision was the migration concept put together by B&R and Lenzing Technik GmbH. The updating and restoration plan they created guarantees that the production process can continue uninterrupted. The updating and restoration that are needed will take place in several stages. The shortest possible down-times are important so that production can continue uninterrupted.

APROL is a Linux-based process control system that enables complete solutions – from terminal blocks to visualization. Editable and open libraries as well as excellent availability using series components guarantee the highest level of flexibility.

For more than 25 years, "Perfection in Automation" has been a recipe for success for the Austrian company B&R. 1,100 employees and an international network of subsidiaries in more than 50 countries guarantee further expansion for this high-tech company. In addition to control and drive components, the product portfolio also includes intelligent system integration for complex automation solutions.
